The last time I encountered diagramming was in eighth grade. I don't remember there being so many different patterns to worry about trying to keep straight! I do find the diagramming to be interesting and actually a little fun, even though it was a little frustrating at first. Does diagramming help any of you to understand the structure of a sentence better or is it something that seems to cause more confusion?

From what I remember of diagramming in 8th grade, we just worked with the parts of the sentence and didn't talk at all about what pattern it was, only how the parts related to each other.
Because my first experience with diagramming emphasized the parts of the sentence and not the pattern, I feel that I understand sentence structure better because of diagramming.

It definitely helps me understand the sentence. I have never seen diagramming before this class.

I had never seen sentence diagrams until this class so they were very confusing and difficult for me at first. I think it would be a good idea to start teaching them earlier in all schools.

I had not seen diagramming before this class either. At first it was confusing, but now that I understand it a little better I think it helps to see the different sentence patterns. It’s nice to see how all the parts of a sentence work together to function as a whole.

Diagramming wasn't very fun for me, but now that I actually get it, I like it and see how useful it is.

Talking to another English Professor, he made me see all of the values you get from diagramming sentences. So in conclusion it is pretty valueable!
